From Head Greenkeeper - Alec Horsburgh The rain and casting worms are providing very muddy and slippery conditions at the moment. We are struggling to get machinery out on the course, which makes it difficult for us to complete essential maintenance, but we will take our opportunities when we get them. Please be careful when out playing and try to stay off the slopes whenever possible and keep trolleys out of the no trolley zones (when they appear). If it gets too muddy, then you have the option of a dry, windy and worm free indoor venue, which you may have heard Simon mention. You may have noticed patches on the greens lately. This is a turf disease called microdochium nivale, or fusarium, which thrives on humid conditions. We have regularly been having humidity percentage levels in the high 90 range recently which is perfect for disease progression. It is unsightly and can affect the playing surface slightly, but it will recover in time and with a bit of effort from us greenkeepers.
